Andere veranderingen waren een verdere verlaging van de hoogte van de bovenste vleugel boven de romp, een herzien roer, een hoofdsteun voor de piloot die vaak werd verwijderd, en een ander aileronbesturingssysteem. De D.V kwam in mei 1917 in dienst en werd al snel vergezeld door de D.Va, die terugkeerde naar de bovenste vleugel en het aileronbesturingssysteem van de D.III. Beide varianten werden op zeer grote schaal geproduceerd, maar het ontwerp was verouderd en kon niet concurreren met de nieuwste geallieerde gevechtsvliegtuigen.
