“Gevechtsverslag: 1315 uur. Hof Struywe, Plein V.42., deze kant van de linie. RE2 (verbrand). Vergezeld door mijn Staffel viel ik op 2.500 meter ten noorden van Ieper, aan deze kant van de linie, een Engelse artillerie RE aan. Ik vuurde van de kortste afstand zo’n 200 schoten af, waarna ik over het vijandelijke toestel heen zoemde. Op dat moment zag ik dat zowel de piloot als de waarnemer dood in hun machine lagen. Het vliegtuig ging verder zonder te vallen, in ongecontroleerde bochten naar de grond. Gedreven door de wind viel het in de boerderij van Struywe waar het begon te branden nadat het de grond had geraakt.
