“Richthofen was een geboren leider. Scherp als een scheermes in dienstzaken; altijd eerlijk, vooral in de lucht boven het front. Hij zag alles. Hij gaf nieuwe mannen in de Jasta alle kansen om een overwinning te behalen. Hij gaf veel overwinningen weg, als de jonge piloot daardoor zijn eerste overwinning kon behalen.
