W\u00fcsthoff, een aas met 27 overwinningen en ontvanger van Pour Le M\u00e9rite, werd overgeplaatst naar de Geschwader staf. Volgens zijn opvolger, Leutnant Georg von der Osten:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLeutnant W\u00fcsthoff was een zeer onstuimige en succesvolle gevechtspiloot. Om deze reden was hij door Richthofen toegewezen aan het commando van Jasta 4, op 19-jarige leeftijd! Ik hoorde dat ze hem daar niet erg mochten. Hij was\u2026veel jonger dan al zijn piloten en hij had een erg brutale manier van doen. Behalve dat hij een erg sympathieke man was, rapporteerde hij overwinningen die hij niet altijd controleerde.
