D'autres modifications ont \u00e9t\u00e9 apport\u00e9es, notamment une r\u00e9duction suppl\u00e9mentaire de la hauteur de l'aile sup\u00e9rieure au-dessus du fuselage, une gouverne r\u00e9vis\u00e9e, un appui-t\u00eate pour le pilote qui \u00e9tait souvent retir\u00e9 et un syst\u00e8me de commande des ailerons diff\u00e9rent. Le D.V est entr\u00e9 en service en mai 1917 et a rapidement \u00e9t\u00e9 rejoint par le D.Va, qui est revenu \u00e0 l'aile sup\u00e9rieure et au syst\u00e8me de commande des ailerons du D.III. Les deux variantes furent produites \u00e0 tr\u00e8s grande \u00e9chelle, mais leur conception \u00e9tait d\u00e9pass\u00e9e et ne pouvait rivaliser avec les derniers chasseurs alli\u00e9s.
