Volant avec cinq hommes du Jasta 11, \u00e0 basse altitude, j’ai rencontr\u00e9 un Sopwith monoplace au front, avec le Leutnant Udet. Au d\u00e9but, l’adversaire tenta de m’\u00e9chapper par un vol habile. A une distance ne d\u00e9passant pas la longueur d’un avion, je l’ai abattu en flammes. Pendant la chute, l’avion s’est d\u00e9sint\u00e9gr\u00e9. Le fuselage s’est \u00e9cras\u00e9 dans le petit bois de Contalmaison. Temps : beau avec des vents forts, couvert par moments. Plusieurs autres victimes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9es au fil des ans, mais Donovan est celui qui correspond le mieux \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque et au lieu.
