Nous avons eu une messe de guerre \u00e0 l’\u00e9glise. J’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 frapp\u00e9e par le nombre de personnes d\u00e9j\u00e0 en deuil, alors que la guerre ne dure que depuis quelques semaines. Une ambiance grave et presque oppressante ne voulait pas se dissiper. Lorsque nous sommes sortis de l’\u00e9glise \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, nous avons encore vu une feuille de l’Etrablatt avec une grande nouvelle de la victoire. Nous nous sommes tous dirig\u00e9s vers le journal, o\u00f9 l’on distribuait les feuilles suppl\u00e9mentaires, encore humides. Dix corps d’arm\u00e9e fran\u00e7ais ont \u00e9t\u00e9 battus par notre arm\u00e9e du Kronprinz entre Reims et Verdun. C’\u00e9tait encore une belle joie de Sedan. Nous sommes rentr\u00e9s chez nous plus heureux. La victoire du colonel g\u00e9n\u00e9ral von Hindenburg en Prusse orientale s’av\u00e8re \u00eatre un magnifique fait d’armes. 100.000 Russes – avons-nous lu – ont \u00e9t\u00e9 repouss\u00e9s dans les lacs de Mazurie, dont 70.000 hommes et 300 officiers se sont rendus.
