\u00ab Le 9 octobre, Manfred est arriv\u00e9 par surprise de Berlin, pour une tr\u00e8s courte visite. Lothar est arriv\u00e9 de Breslau. J’avais invit\u00e9 quelques personnes, des officiers bless\u00e9s, des jeunes filles. Alors que tout le monde \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 r\u00e9uni dans le salon, mes fils sont entr\u00e9s, tous deux en uniforme, tous deux d\u00e9cor\u00e9s du Pour le M\u00e9rite. J’avoue que j’\u00e9tais assez vaniteux pour \u00eatre fier d’eux. La jeunesse \u00e9tait alors tr\u00e8s amusante. A neuf heures et demie, je les ai conduits tous les deux \u00e0 la gare. Ils sont retourn\u00e9s au front via Berlin. C’est un moment sacr\u00e9ment s\u00e9rieux que celui o\u00f9 l’on embrasse et serre la main de ses fils partis au combat et \u00e0 la guerre. Manfred et moi \u00e9tions en train de discuter dans la salle d’attente, Lothar \u00e9tait assis \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de nous en silence. Cette fois-ci, il avait terriblement de mal \u00e0 se s\u00e9parer de nous. Mais \u00e0 la station suivante, \u00e0 Liegnitz, o\u00f9 ils s’\u00e9taient arr\u00eat\u00e9s, leur humeur s’\u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 suffisamment am\u00e9lior\u00e9e pour qu’ils puissent penser \u00e0 une petite farce. Ils \u00e9crivirent en effet \u00e0 leur petit fr\u00e8re cadet Bolko dix cartes postales – d’un seul coup ! Toutes des choses inutiles. Probablement pour emb\u00eater les \u00ab paum\u00e9s \u00bb de Wahlstatt. Ils signaient en effet \u00ab M\u00e4nne-M\u00e4nning \u00bb et \u00ab Lotte-Lotting \u00bb.
