A l’\u00e2ge de huit ans, mes parents l’attendaient un jour \u00e0 Breslau en descendant du train. Il devait revenir avec deux grandes valises \u00e0 main d’un long s\u00e9jour \u00e0 la campagne. Le gar\u00e7on fut envoy\u00e9 \u00e0 la gare pour \u00eatre pris en charge, il revint seul. Manfred \u00e9tait introuvable. Que s’\u00e9tait-il pass\u00e9 ? Le t\u00e9l\u00e9phone n’existait pas encore \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque. L’excitation montait. Alors que mes parents en discutaient encore, la cloche d’entr\u00e9e a sonn\u00e9 et Manfred s’est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 la porte, sain et sauf, avec ses deux valises. \u00ab\u00a0Tu as d\u00fb prendre un fiacre ? \u00ab Non, je n’avais pas d’argent \u00bb. \u00ab Qui t’a donc port\u00e9 les valises ? \u00bb \u00ab Je l’ai fait moi-m\u00eame \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mes parents \u00e9taient sans voix et incr\u00e9dules, car les valises \u00e9taient si lourdes que Manfred aurait eu du mal \u00e0 en soulever une seule. Mais ils ont ensuite re\u00e7u des explications. \u00ab J’ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 pu en soulever une, je l’ai toujours port\u00e9e un peu plus loin et entre-temps j’ai surveill\u00e9 l’autre, puis je suis all\u00e9 chercher la deuxi\u00e8me, et c’est ainsi que je suis arriv\u00e9 petit \u00e0 petit, malheureusement cela a dur\u00e9 un peu longtemps \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
