\u00ab L’escadron du capitaine Freiherr von Richthofen, compos\u00e9 d’une trentaine d’avions, a survol\u00e9 dimanche les lignes anglaises sur la Somme. Apr\u00e8s avoir repouss\u00e9 quelques avions anglais avec son escadron de chasse, Richthofen a bifurqu\u00e9 avec son d\u00e9tachement vers le nord. En peu de temps, une cinquantaine d’avions se sont retrouv\u00e9s engag\u00e9s dans un combat a\u00e9rien, auquel ont particip\u00e9 des avions venus de plusieurs kilom\u00e8tres \u00e0 la ronde. Ce fut un combat acharn\u00e9, o\u00f9 il \u00e9tait impossible de distinguer les amis des ennemis. Soudain, on vit l’appareil de Richthofen plonger dans le vide depuis une altitude d’environ cent cinquante pieds.
