Von Sch\u00f6nebeck, der bei seiner Ankunft bei der Jasta 11 von Richthofen pers\u00f6nlich in die Steuerung der Fokker-Dreier eingewiesen wurde, beschrieb den Baron wie folgt: \u201eEr war etwa durchschnittlich gro\u00df, st\u00e4mmig, dunkelblond und hatte blaue Augen. Seine Stimme war mittelstark, seine Ausdrucksweise pr\u00e4gnant, klar und pr\u00e4zise. Er sprach auf vornehme Weise und benutzte niemals Schimpfw\u00f6rter oder vulg\u00e4re Ausdr\u00fccke. Nach jedem Flug gab es eine Besprechung, und w\u00e4hrend dieser Besprechungen war er ruhig und beherrscht und sprach mit viel Humor, egal wie gef\u00e4hrlich die Aktion gewesen sein mochte.
