Der Prototyp flog im Mai 1917 mit einem 149 kW (200 PS) starken Hispano-Suiza-Getriebemotor, und derselbe Antrieb wurde auch in der Dolphin Mk I verwendet, die Ende 1917 in Dienst gestellt wurde. Probleme mit dem Getriebemotor f\u00fchrten dann zur Dolphin Mk III mit einer Direktantriebsversion desselben Motors, und die Bezeichnung Dolphin Mk II wurde f\u00fcr einige wenige Flugzeuge mit einem 224 kW (300 PS) starken Hispano-Suiza-Direktantriebsmotor verwendet. Insgesamt wurden 1532 St\u00fcck produziert, aber nur 621 wurden an operative Staffeln ausgegeben, die die ungew\u00f6hnlichen Str\u00f6mungsabriss-Eigenschaften der Dolphin und die Gef\u00e4hrdung des Piloten bei einem Unfall mit Buglandung ablehnten.
